What is Hypnotherapy and how does it work?
Hypnotherapy is a natural process. Do you ever set off on a journey somewhere new and after a while realise you have taken your usual route to work instead? You automatically drove your way to work because it is so familiar that you do it without thinking. This is a form of very light hypnosis, perfectly natural and safe. Your conscious mind was busy thinking about something else, while to keep you safe, your subconscious mind took over driving the car. This is what happens during hypnotherapy.
How does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy works by creating a very relaxed state of mind where the conscious mind is overridden by the sub-conscious. Using various relaxation techniques, I will guide you into this relaxed state, or trance. This allows your conscious mind to drift off letting your sub-conscious mind be more active and open to suggestion. When you are relaxed and in trance, as your hypnotherapist, I will give positive suggestions to your sub-conscious mind to help you change your unwanted habits or ways of thinking to your desired ones. I will then bring you safely out of trance so you are fully alert and feeling relaxed and with a new-found confidence.
From personal experience, and from feedback from clients, Hypnotherapy can help you make changes you never thought possible. During hypnosis, you are always in control, your sub-conscious mind works for you and will not accept any suggestions that you do not wish to make. After each session you will feel relaxed, refreshed, positive and motivated.
How do I start?
It can be a difficult decision to come for Hypnotherapy, especially if it is something you haven’t done before. For this reason, you are welcome to call, text or email me to arrange a free, no obligation 30 minute session, so we can discuss what is troubling you, and you can ask any questions you may have about hypnotherapy. This also gives us an opportunity to find out how we feel working together, and whether hypnotherapy is appropriate for you.
What happens at the first session?
At the initial 30 minute session I will tell you a little bit about me and what you can expect from our sessions. I’ll also explain more about hypnotherapy and how it works. Then I will listen to what has been troubling you and what you are hoping to achieve. I will ask you a few questions about yourself, your background, and how your difficulties are affecting your health and wellbeing. If you decide to continue, I will then suggest how many sessions you might need. At the first full session I will ask more questions so that I can really tailor your hypnotherapy to your individual needs so that it will be as effective as possible for you. Then we will have a short hypnosis focussing on relaxation and positive thinking.
How long does a session last?
Hypnotherapy sessions last between 1 hour and 1 hour 15 minutes.
Smoking cessation is a one-off session and lasts around 1 hour 30 minutes.
How long will I need Hypnotherapy for?
This will depend on you and your reasons for seeking hypnotherapy. For Stop Smoking, I offer a single longer session. For other issues, several sessions will be necessary for the hypnotherapy to be most effective. We will discuss how many sessions you might need when we first meet. At each session I will ask for your feedback and we can review this as we work together. Your feedback is important so that I can tailor your treatment plan to your individual needs, and so that you are able to decide when you feel that your issues have been resolved.
Is it confidential?
Yes. Our sessions will be confidential according to the ethical guidelines of the NCH. I will discuss confidentiality with you at our first session or you can ask me about it when you contact me.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes. Please call or text me to give 24 hours’ notice of cancellation or to rearrange a session, otherwise, half the full fee will be charged.
